Mezzo-soprano Alyssa Samson & pianist Jonathan Decolongon perfrom passionate arias & art songs by Brahms, Debussy & more, alongside thrilling sonatas & nocturnes by Beethoven & Chopin.
Alyssa Samson is currently a classical voice major at Capilano University. She has been recognized as a valued musician in the local community and has received awards for her achievements including the Dogwood District Scholarship in Voice and 1st place in the Capilano University Music Diploma Scholarship Competition. Alyssa has sung with a variety of choirs and general manager of 8Wings Vocal Ensemble - an 8-person a cappella group that focusses on pop and R&B arrangements.
Born and raised in Vancouver, Jonathan Decolongon was always surrounded with music. With various members of the family who could sing, play guitar, piano or all of the above, the environment nurtured his passion. Jonathan attended the Vancouver Academy of Music at the age of 5, studying piano under the tutelage of Martha Brickman. During his time at the academy, he also studied music harmony and history. Today, Jonathan hopes to further his career as a musician or music therapist.
Up and coming vocalist Jessica Toplak is quickly finding her voice within the Vancouver music community as she completes her final year of Jazz Studies at Capilano University. She has both curated events at El Barrio, Presentation House, and Gold Saucer Studios and has performed at various venues including St. Wesley Andrew's Jazz Vespers. The Jessica Toplak Quintet, vibraphonist Saul Alviar, guitarist Parker Woods, bassist William Chernoff and drummer Miles Wong, draws inspiration from jazz, R&B, and folk. This group is truly unique as it combines lyrical storytelling with complex harmony, rhythm, and improvisation. Jessica's velvet tone warms the insightful poetry as the music delivers rich and colorful meaning to the performance.
Ben Frost, a senior at Capilano University, is an emerging voice in Vancouver jazz as both a composer and trumpet player. The Ben Frost Quartet, including, pianist Jenny Xu, bassist André Lachance and Miles Wong on drums drums, explores Ben’s original material in a personal and thought provoking way.
Ashley Gonzales is currently a studying voice & piano at Capilano University. She has sung with the world renowned Saint Patrick’s Chamber Choir and travelled to Montreal and New York for performances, getting the opportunity to sing in the world famous Carnegie Hall. Among placing in numerous standings in a handful competitions, her most recent standing is second place in the 2016 Capilano University Scholarship Competition.
Canadian pianist Daniel Nguyen is an upcoming performer and teacher. Daniel has earned his ARCT in piano performance and his LCBM in piano performance. He has studied under Quyen Dao, Tony Meyers, Jan Baxendale, and is currently studying under Dr. Rudy Rozanski at Capilano University. Daniel has also completed his RCM Piano Pedagogy Diploma with Rita Attrot.
