Derry Lubell

Jeidin Winkler

Artists Derry Lubell & Jeidn Winkler use the human form to tell universal stories & explore ideas around identity, connection & communication.

Derry Lubell is a Vancouver based photographer whose curiosity about people & how they relate to the world has led her to capturing the images of dancers. Both dance & photography speak to us without using words. Dancers use their bodies to communicate, telling us stories & connecting us with our emotions. Through the language of movement, dancers touch us in places that otherwise might be hard to reach. Capturing these dancers in motion with her camera, Lubell invites us into to the conversation. Lubell's dancers range from beginners to internationally lauded ballerinas, some situated in the studio while others are freely moving about urban & natural settings, all engaged in the moment their bodies speak to us in the language of emotion.

Jeidn Winkler is a multi-disciplinary Czech-Canadian artist based in Vancouver whose work delves into the complexities of identity & subjectivity. Their practice is deeply rooted in self-portraiture, informed by personal experiences as a queer artist living with BPD, allowing them to chronicle the fragments of their ever-evolving identity. In a realistic impressionism approach, Winkler creates life-resembling depictions of themself accentuated with symbolic stylistic elements. Using a variety of media, including coloured pencil, acrylic paint, & photography, allows them to capture multiple facets of being. Through these striking self portraits, Winkler invites us to reflect on our own experiences & engage in a shared exploration of identity & selfhood.
