The West Vancouver Community Arts Council is proud to be collaborating with North Van Arts, who is spearheading The North Shore Culture Compass: an ongoing project to compile a hub of cultural assets within the North Shore Region, including the City of North Vancouver, the District of North Vancouver, the District of West Vancouver, the Squamish Nation & the Tsleil-Waututh Nation.
The WVCAC has been a partner from the early days of the project. We are proud to contribute through membership in the Advisory Committee, providing specialized staff to collect data, selling the promotional You Are Here Calendar & hosting exhibitions of the original artwork from the calendar.
What is the North Shore Culture Compass?
North Shore Culture Compass is a free online map that visualizes the rich cultural offerings of the North Shore. An accessible navigational tool featuring key information about points of interest, the Culture Compass encourages local residents to connect with the history, art & stories of the North Shore from the comfort of their homes. From historical hotspots to natural places, public art to online events, the map encompasses the cultural diversity of the region
There are variety of uses for the North Shore Culture Compass:
You Are Here Calendar
These unique calendars contain 12 images created by local artists depicting North Shore scenes. The calendars serve as a promotional & fundraising tool for the Culture Compass. Calendar pages are 10″ x 14″ (25cm x 36cm). Full colour images depict locations in the North Shore region, with a map showing where to find the spot. Holidays & religious observances included in the calendar were researched in collaboration with the North Shore Immigrant Inclusion Partnership to reflect the cultural make up of our communities.
