This profound connection is explored through dynamic & detailed works of art depicting complex natural systems - forest ecosystems, fungal networks, undergrowth - as symbols of our own entanglement with nature & a reminder of it's resiliency & fragility.

Lori Goldberg is a Vancouver artist with a profound connection to nature. This series of large, expressive forest paintings were inspired by recent scientific studies of British Columbia's old-growth forests & visualizes how trees, understory plants, & fungi interact through subterranean mycelium networks, collectively forming a harmonious, intricate society. Goldberg takes refuge amongst the trees, which she sees as silent sentinels of storied landscapes that help connect people, history & places. Using acrylic paints in these detailed & layered works allows for the freedom & fluidity of ideas & mark making. Each brushstroke reflects the rhythmic renewal that she experience in the heart of the forest.

Roohy Marandi is a West Vancouver ceramic artist inspired by the world around her. Marandi's works emphasize strength, stability & beauty, always pushing dynamic interplay between architectural formalism & an organic synergy. The sculptures on display offer three-dimensional illustrations of mushrooms & mosses clustered on the roots & branches of trees or amongst the forest floor. Each piece is infused with life & energy through the intricately detailed forms & glazes. Marandi 's sensitivity towards her subjects, transferred from her former nursing career, reveals a deep connection with living organisms. Using the earth itself she shares that fascination for life with us.

Camille Sleeman is a landscape painter from Vancouver working in oils. Rather than viewing the landscape from a distance, Sleeman prefers to explore the landscape up close, observing the details, colours & changes throughout the seasons. In her elaborately realistic images the deep tangles of undergrowth take on the abstract notion of physicality, such as the musculature of exposed roots or the skeletal arrangement of rocks under a skin of snow - intimating the history of the forest. Nature's ability to heal & regenerate is prevalent in Sleeman's work. Preferring to paint from a different point of view, she aims to immerse the viewer in the landscape, & to peer into its unknown depths.
